A Bend in The Souhegan River
To get away from the stresses of finals week I decided to go to this little hidden trail that takes you to a complete secluded bend in the Souhegan River, a large river that flows through my town, and I believe feeds out into the Merrimack River. I tend to go here a lot when I am having problems, as I find it to be a very good place to examine my thoughts and let myself truly be at peace. It's a 16 mile round trip bike ride to it, which I normally take, because I like the added exercise and fresh air that riding a bicycle, typically on back roads and dirt roads, gives me. When I was at this place, I sat on the low lying dead limb of a large tree, and watched the river go by. I also walked along the river on the sandy shore of it, which was submerged by flooded water from the snow the last time I was there a week or so ago. I was happy to see the vegetation finally growing for the spring, and the plants that normally grow and cover the river bank finally starting to appear for the year. This place, during this time of year, is definitely one of my favorite places to be in nature, though I definitely know many places in nature that I like as much, especially during the spring. For me, whenever I feel any stress, I tend to go to nature in order to collect myself and feel at peace, and nature helps me more than any antidepressant ever could.
I also saw buds on some of the trees that haven't yet sprouted their buds yet, and thought about what we learned in class about tree buds. Some trees already have small leaves though, while others still appear to be dormant for now. At this point of the year though, most trees and other vegetation are growing small leaves, and coming out of dormancy. I did see small wildflowers already growing in areas, though not as many as I know will be there by the summer. Most of the fresh leaves still appeared to be very fragile and lightly colored.

The old dead tree that I sat on
The eroding river bank with visible sand and rock piling that eroded off
The exposed sandy shore of the river, which is only finally exposed for the first time
